Matthew Patrick Shaw is an Assistant Professor of Law at Vanderbilt Law School. His research focuses on legal theories of education rights and complementary empirical research. His article, The Public Right to Education (University of Chicago Law Review, 2022), reimagines education as a constitutionally protected property interest to which students have a public right. The 2023 recipient of the Goldberg Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Education Law, Professor Shaw holds an Ed.D. in quantitative policy analysis and an Ed.M. in education policy from Harvard, a J.D. from Columbia, and an A.B. in Romance languages and history from UNC-Chapel Hill.
