Shrayana Bhattacharya is a Senior Economist in the World Bank's Social Protection and Jobs Practice based between Bangkok and New Delhi. In her role, she leads a series of World Bank engagements to strengthen the capability of state governments to accelerate the jobs agenda for women and improve delivery of core social protection benefits. She recently led the World Bank's Development Policy Loan support to the Ministry of Finance, GoI on PMGKY and tracks trends in social protection in India with various academics and development practitioners. Her first book of non-fiction Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh : India's Lonely Young Women and the Search for Intimacy and Independence was published in November 2021 by HarperCollins India and has been shortlisted for, and won, numerous literary awards. In her free time, she is trying to write her next book
